Boonville, NC, Firefighters Not Responding after Losing Funding

July 3, 2025
Yadkin County officials' demand for Boonville leadership to resign was voted down due to firefighter safety concerns.

Boonville firefighters aren't responding to calls after losing county funds.

“As of right now, we’re currently not on the list to be responding to calls,” said John Bull, a member of the Board of Directors, told WGHP.

The fire department's board unanimously voted they were not going to do what the county demanded to save their contract -- for the leadership to step down in the next 30 days for five years.

“The county provided no reasoning or rationale why we should take out and remove these people,” Bull said.

“From a safety standpoint, removing our most experienced, some of our most technically, tactically, and operational professional officers, potentially exposes the other firefighters to being hurt or injured in these environments we work in,” Bull said.

Dorothy Baity, who manages the Boonville Antique Mall, praised the local firefighters for saving the building during a recent fire.

Bull said residents will now have a longer wait when they call for help.
